Nothing gets us in the spirit of buying like the Holiday Season! Here are some of our favorite holiday marketing campaigns of the past couple years:

 12 Days of HBO Now

In December of 2015, HBO debuted their “12 Days of HBO Now” campaign, in which HBO users could gift any of their non-subscriber friends with 12 episodes of any HBO television show. Now, if we’re being honest, you were probably already sharing your account with your non-subscriber friend, but the idea was still clever and a great way to spread the spirit of Christmas joy. Plus, the campaign included a great series of video spots featuring prominent HBO characters from shows like the Wire, Game of Thrones and Sopranos each recording their own verse of the “12 Days of HBO” song. My personal favorite? The impeccable Paulie Walnuts from the Sopranos.

 

Lagavulin’s Nick Offerman’s Yule Log

This is another gem from 2015. If you’re at all familiar with Parks and Rec, then you’re already in love with Nick Offerman’s character/alter-ego Ron Swanson. Swanson/Offerman’s love for all things rugged and rustic became a hallmark of the show and even seeps into Offerman’s live performances and numerous books. Another one of his favorite things besides wood-working, stand up comedy and beards? A nice glass of scotch. In this 10 hour holiday spot by Lagavulin, a Scottish distillery, we find the perfect conjoining of man, yuletide log and scotch. Offerman’s dry brand of humor pairs well with the smoky flavor of Lagavulin’s Scotch. So enjoy, 10 hours of everybody’s favorite grizzled libertarian.

 

Google: Santa Tracker

Google, masters of implementing tech that integrates and enhances our daily lives in the subtlest of ways, holds an annual favorite in the holiday tradition list. That being the good old Santa Tracker. Santa Tracker is as straightforward as it sounds, but in the last few years the program has grown from a simple countdown and location mapping application into a full on entertainment hub, filled with Holiday themed games for kids to enjoy leading up to Christmas day.

H&M: Come Together

It may be a biased opinion, but almost anything Wes Anderson is involved in makes it automatically great. H&M partnered with the famous director to create this quick and beautiful holiday short of an impromptu Christmas party aboard a train, starring Adrien Brody. Train passengers, all wearing H&M clothing, are invited to a dining cart where the crew has decked out the halls in the regalia of a Christmas wonderland. Simple, well shot and well executed, this was the perfect viral video for H&M last holiday season.

Spotify “2018 Goals”

While not directly Christmas themed, these ads have recently started running and feature some pretty Christmas leaning color palettes. Based on last year’s global billboards, this year’s campaign turns interesting tidbits and user data into clever, even politically pointed billboards poking fun at viewers’ listening habits. For example, “Take a page from the 3,445 people who streamed the ‘Boozy Brunch’ playlist on a Wednesday this year”. Or “Deliver burns as well as the person who streamed “Bad Liar” 86 times the day Sean Spicer resigned”. What I love about these billboards is the sense of humor and flippant attitude. Spotify really is killing it right now in the world of streaming and these top notch ads just strengthen their position.
