Defensive gem saves Grandma

At Thursday’s Cactus League spring training game between the Chicago Cubs and the Texas Rangers, Ryan Carr of the Bigfish Creative Group, reached out to make an all-but-impossible, barehanded grab of a towering fly ball that was headed directly toward Mabel Chan, preventing near-certain calamity, injury, and insurance payouts.

Chan, age 84, was attending the game as part of her annual springtime visit to Arizona during which she sizes up her hometown Rangers. She said: “Ryan is nice young man…but he wouldn’t give me my baseball.”

Carr, a 31-year-old Cubs fan currently residing in Phoenix, said: “That was a good catch, but I’ve made better…Mabel offered me a dollar for the ball—she’ll have to sweeten that offer significantly.”
